I have voted and now I must just wait for the results, I bet tonight will be a long one. Half of me wants to watch all night and half doesn't. Maybe I'll write a song about tonight and record it. Thank heavens there is a garbage can in there. :( So I went home midday and this morning when I woke up my throat was on fire. No good. Most importantly I didn't want to get anyone sick, as I suspect someone working while sick had something to do with it.

So I am dialed in today from home on the work laptop, already getting stuff done. See, this guy is a goddamned genius. Although he is no longer with us on this Earth-ka-bob, he is still a genius to the day. His music in so many ways is so ahead of it's time. (the keyword is "so") He so inspires me in my guitar playing.

I recently saw Project Object, a Zappa Tribute band with a couple of ex-band members in it. Good stuff, although it was a a place called Dante's and it was not the best place for a show, I felt like I was at a bar and there just happened to be a band there playing music I loved. It was good and I got to say hello to a couple of the guys (I had met them once in Chicago), but not the best venue by any means. I did get to hear all kinds of great tunes, wish I had the setlist...

Please check out Frank Zappa, he is the best. Last night M had her pottery class, and I chilled at home. Rig and his new friend came by and we ended up going out to the Hedge House for some food. I had to bolt though cause M was done with her class and I was picking her up. It was nice meeting Rig's new friend.

Tonight the plan is to have yet another amazing grill cook fest. M and I got this grill, you see, and it is the best.

I need to figure out a patio cover or something before it starts raining too much, I will want to grill in the winter for sure. I hear Costco has those 10 by 10 outside canopies that might work OK for the winter. I'll have to check it out.

M and I will be getting a new dryer soon, the one we got with the house is shite. It blows a ton of lint and such out the seams of the front door. Not good to breath I bet. We're also going to be painting soon, last night we picked out some colors. We're excited.

Have a good weekend to all of you (none) that read this. :D

St Helens Lava

LAVA!

Debate night

Tonight is the final presidential debate. I think Kerry will win again, not too hard though, kinda like the high schooler against the pre-first student.

Mt St Helens has exposed red lava, I guess you could see it in the crater last night. If I find any good photos I'll put them up. Usually she is in the same place and wears a robe like thing that used to be yellow and now she has a new blue one. She is causing quite the discussion these days, everyone sitting in the square yesterday seemed to be often looking in her direction and pointing from time to time. Rig and I have been observing for weeks. Could she be the queen of the Thunderdome? Whoo hoo! Tonight Rig, M and I are headed out to another concert. This time we're seeing Peter Rowan and Tony Rice. Wait... I just was looking for a link for this posting and then I see this information:

Friday October 08, 2004 Aladdin Theater Portland, OR
"Due to an arm injury, Tony will not be performing at this show and will be replaced by Mike Marshall."

How lame is that? Damnit. I was stoked to see Tony Rice. Well I'm sure it will still be good, but the Alladin should change it so it's just Peter Rowan on the bill when we buy tickets.

I'll have to report back how it was after the weekend. That was $129 just for the molding. Having a glass only deductable is worthwhile on insurance. I'm still out of a stereo, so I need to figure that out soon. Driving with a big gaping hole in the dash is no fun, and I always end up with bad songs stuck in my head.

I have the engineering meeting today at work, hope it goes by fast, I have plently to do today.

Tonight hopefully Rig and I are going to record some. But I'm out of a stereo, since it was less than $500, I just need to replace that, eat the cost. What a sucky thing, still bummed about it all. On top of it, I was feeling a sence of relief that it was in the shop and by the end of the day I would have it fixed and better. But, I just got a call from the shop and they need to get a molding piece around the window and need authorization from insurance to do so. What a pain. You'd think they would have authorization for that but I guess the insurance keeps a tight hold on that stuff. I just hope it doesn't take too long and I don't need to pay anything more than what I was already going to pay.

Last night M and I met more of our neighbors and one said they know another lady that had the same thing done to her car that night. The guy thought it was transients, as this lady has had a similar thing happen after she yelled at some of them, and others had seen some scoping out cars. Now my car is in the garage overnight, much better. I wish M could park her car in a garage too, but hopefully nothing will happen to it. I don't think they will mess with our house, but we're doing everything we can to be safe and such.

My belly is very hungry today, I'm headed to lunch a little early today. Tonight we are going to M's friend's going away party, they are moving to Bend, OR. It will be sad but we'll have a place to stay in Bend now whenever to visit them.

Eruption and my sad day

They say an eruption is coming soon, but I also can't help but think the media is really "blowing it up" too. It was much needed, hadn't gone on a road trip with a buddy for a longtime. FarmAid was great, Willie, Neil and Dave Matthews' set were especially good. We met up with some friends for the show and afterwards went to Seattle. The next day we had a good breakfast and then headed to the Seattle vs. A's game. It was super fun. I came back to Portland feeling fresh and open minded. Always good.

Tonight the Waffle is playing some music. J.J. Cale cover from the album "Naturally" (best known for the Eric Clapton version). #Set begins around 11:35 pm with Father Time on stage pedaling away at a stationary bike, powering a large clock, with the sound of the gears on the PA (possibly a Siket Disc track?). At approximately 11:50 pm, Father Time collapses from exhaustion and the clock stops. At this time, with appropriate sound effects, a large fan boat entered the field from halfway back, stage right. Soon the sides and top of the fan boat were blown off to reveal the band riding in the hot dog from 12-31-94. The hot dog approached the stage as the band threw leis and other goodies into the crowd. Once the hot dog reached the stage, the band disembarked carrying several meatsticks. They fed these to Father Time, reviving him to drive to clock to midnight. ^Instrumental version, with the band picking up the song from a pre-recorded version played during the hot dog ride. ^^With vocal jam, as Trey, Mike, and Page sang the notes as they played them. ^^^Recorded live for ABC's Millennium coverage; Trey instructed the crowd to chant the word "Cheesecake" after the song (instead of applauding), in an attempt to confuse TV viewers; Trey introduced the band for the recorded footage and offered a message of peace and harmony for the world ("The right lane is for driving. The left lane is for passing. So stay in the right lane unless you're passing."). ^^^^Preceded by "Meatstick" tease (possibly as Central Time hit midnight). %With "Cheesecake" vocal jam. %%Trey solo acoustic. %%%With Mike holding up a voice box, repeating the phrase "Quadrophonic Toppling." %%%%With Fish on vacuum; Fish introduced Page before the song, and Mike and Trey afterwards, and the band as "Phish 2000." $Preceded by a tease of the "Harry Hood" intro. $$No encore; post-show music was the Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun."

07/12/03 - Gorge Amphitheatre - George, Washington

Set 1: Taste, Mexican Cousin, Stash, NICU, Heavy Things, Mock Song*, Army of One**, Maze

Set 2: Piper, Two Versions of Me*, Tweezer***, Dogs Stole Things, Water in the Sky, Ghost, David Bowie

Encore: Frankenstein, Tweezer Reprise

* debut; ** first time played by Phish, Vida Blue original; *** ?

07/13/03 - Gorge Amphitheatre - George, Washington

Set 1: Runaway Jim, Scents > Subtle Sounds, Axilla, Carini, Dog Faced Boy, Round Room, Halley's Comet*, Guyute*, You Enjoy Myself

Set 2: Llama, Wolfman's Brother > Jesus Just Left Chicago, Seven Below*, Harry Hood, Chalkdust Torture

Encore: First Tube

* with Mike on electronic bagpipes

Friday it up!

Yes, indeed it is Friday. So does Rig, BL, JI, and MMD.

Thursday

Today I've heard a couple of fighter jets over Portland, I saw a couple yesterday too. Someone had said Cheney was in town... I wonder if he gets fighter pilot protection everywhere he goes?

The whole election is getting out of hand, how can we not be addressing the Iraq war and the false buildup to war? Why are we focusing on Vietnam? It's all theatre. I just hope the right choice is made Nov 2nd (no more Bush), and we don't see the beginnings of a constant police state and loss of human rights. The next few years will be interesting. If we continue like we have in the last few years, I fear we as a country will never be able to lift up. A foreign policy of ethnocentrism is not the way to go, but I guess that is what can happen when a president is given office (not elected), and he has never traveled out of the country. Somedays you have to think that either gross incompetence is running the country or there is much more going on than what is being told to the public...

Anyway, enough of that for now. I think I need to find some sort of food this morning...

Starting it up

Today I feel inclined to keep up with this blog thing. Not for anyone's sake but my own. Not for the sake of blogging or the movement of blogging, just to keep my thoughts preserved.

This morning is a grey (gray?) day in Portland. It feels as if fall is setting in, I guess it is September already. Work is moving at a normal pace for me today, I have plenty to do, but I'm caught up enough that I'm not feeling clinched at all. I generally try to avoid the clinch feeling as much as possible, while being true to myself that governs that possible clinch. Denial isn't for me really, I'd rather keep as clean of a mindset as possible, and if that means dealing with something head on I will. Much easier that way for me. So...glad work is flowing OK lately.

The new house has been super fun. Just coming home each night is great, so many things you can do, ranging from nothing to a ton of progress. This weekend M and I worked on the music studio in the basement. My friends and I had done some soundproofing but it was shoddy at best. M and I just took our time and made it look better and I'm sure it is much more soundproofed as well. I wonder if the group is jamming tonight. Hopefully B got his bass amp back.

This weekend I'm going to FarmAid. Should be fun, it's always great to see Willie. I wonder what the forecast is for this Saturday....
